This year, the Bad Axe High School Destination Imagination Team has been given the opportunity to compete in China. (Yes China, how cool is that?!) In order to help raise money for their upcoming trip, they are partnering with us at D&W Salvage, Inc. to host a Scrap Metal Drive. They are also collecting cans & bottles during this time.
Before you help the team out by donating your scrap, you might first be wondering, "What the heck is Destination Imagination in the first place?" (I know at first we were wondering the same thing!) So let's clear that up!
Destination Imagination is an international problem-solving competition that is open to teams of students aged K-12. It helps harness creativity and team-building, and the competitions all focus on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Teams of students from around the world compete by finishing a project in a particular category, which is then judged. For example: A team who is competing in the Science category might have to research a subject and perform a skit about that topic. Or a team competing in the Technology category might have to build a small robot that is capable of completing a set of required tasks.
So when is the Scrap Metal & Can/Bottle Drive and where is it being held?
Saturday, November 23rd and Sunday, November 24th
Parking lot of the Bad Axe Middle School
D&W Salvage will be placing a roll-off container in the parking lot of the Bad Axe Middle School. Beginning on the morning of the 23rd, and continuing through the end of the day on the 24th, you can drop off your scrap iron and metal items and place them in the container. There will also be a separate trailer available where you can drop off your empty cans & bottles. (Want to know what is/isn't accepted as scrap metal? Check out THIS page!)
If you need help unloading your material during this time, students will be available to help unload from 12-3pm both days.
Alternatively, if you have some ready-to-move items and would like them picked up, you can call Joe at 989-553-1896 or text Rikki at 989-798-3252 to arrange pick-up. However, in order to use this service, you must make arrangements by Friday, November 22nd.
All scrap metal collected will be brought back to D&W Salvage, Inc. for recycling, and any cans/bottles collected will be dropped at the local bottle return. All proceeds earned from the collected scrap and cans/bottles will go to the Bad Axe High School Destination Imagination Team to help fund their trip.
