Catalytic Converter
Catalytic converters are devices in a vehicle exhaust system.  They convert toxic gasses and pollutants like carbon monoxide into less toxic pollutants like carbon dioxide using a ceramic honeycomb or beads that are coated in platinum or palladium.  In order for us to accept catalytic converters, they must be the original converter off of the vehicle (not aftermarket).  They also must be free of any excess steel tubing/piping for the exhaust system, and the interior must still contain all of the ceramic honeycomb material or beads.  Pre-converters will be purchased as Half of a Catalytic Converter due to their small size.  NOTE:  Converters that do not have the honeycomb material or beads will be purchased as tin.
Aftermarket Catalytic Converter
Just like their original counterparts, aftermarket catalytic converters are devices in a vehicle exhaust system that convert toxic gasses and pollutants like carbon monoxide into less toxic pollutants like carbon dioxide.  However, because they are aftermarket items, they are created with a different type or quality of material, making them worth less.  Often times they have a stainless steel shield attached as well.  In order for us to accept aftermarket catalytic converters, they must be free of any excess steel tubing/piping for the exhaust system, and the interior must still contain all of the honeycomb material or beads.  NOTE:  Converters that do not have the honeycomb material or beads will be purchased as tin.
Aluminum Transmissions
A transmission is the portion of the vehicle that assists with changing gears.  Transmissions that have a cast aluminum casing and bell housing are classified as aluminum transmissions.  In order for us to accept aluminum transmissions, the pan must be removed and fluids must be drained.  NOTE:  We can not and will not purchase Aluminum Transmissions if the pan is still attached/they still contain fluids.
Starters/Alternators/Generators
As the title implies, starters are electric motors that start a vehicle.  Alternators and generators are electric motors that create AC current and change (or alternate) that current to DC current that can be stored in the battery; the DC current can then be used to run the various electrical components in a vehicle.  Starters, alternators, and generators are purchased separately from AC Electric Motors.
Soft Lead
Lead that can bend/form easily and is easily scratched or gouged with a fingernail is considered soft lead.  This lead must be clean, or free of any and all contaminants such as steel, plastic, foam, wood, glass, tar, other types of metals, etc.  Great examples of soft lead are: lead shower pans/liners, fishing weights, and the lead rings found in the joints/fittings of cast iron piping.
Lead Wheel Weights
Lead wheel weights contain steel clips that allow them to clip onto the edges of car and truck rims.  Because of the steel content, lead wheel weights are purchased in their own category--separately from soft lead and at a lesser price due to the steel content. Note: lead fishing weights with steel hooks and lead with excessive steel (at least 60% lead to 40% steel) are also purchased in this category.
Batteries
Car, truck, and other lead-acid filled batteries fall under this category.  If the battery is from a piece of equipment or other industrial application and it has a steel casing around it, the steel casing has to be removed in order to purchase it at the battery price.  (If the steel casing cannot be removed, it will be purchased as a Steel-Cased Battery, which is at a lesser price point.)  Due to their internal contents, we do NOT accept GNB, Champion, or Absolyte brand batteries.  We also do not purchase household rechargeable, lithium, or ni-cad batteries, nor do we buy rechargeable batteries from power tools.
AC Electric Motors
These are electric motors that run on AC power and contain copper windings/wires.  Any and all excess steel components, squirrel cages, pumps, etc. must be removed, so that all you are left with is the motor's inner workings and its housing.  NOTE:  If the motor runs on DC power and/or has aluminum windings, it will be purchased as tin.
